Asia Kate Dillion is an award-winning nonbinary actor who is listed as “actress” on imdb. This is inconsistent with their (Asia Kate Dillon’s) public self-description and the roles they’re known for. I would prefer imdb remove all gender markers and refer to all actors as “actor,” but particularly for this entry, “actor” would better describe Asia Kate Dillon as it is the less expressly gendered term.

Hi Jenny -

Currently the way our system is designed, we have to select a gender (at present there is only the "male" and female" options and actor/actress).  Since Asia is credited with  credits in female roles, we will need to retain these credits as "actress" entries on the site, however, we have modified the mini bio to reflect non binary identity and have change all self credits to "Themself",

Unfortunately at the moment that's all we can do given our system restraints.  In the meantime, I encourage you to voice your opinion and up-vote the Idea posted here. Cheers!

See:

... As an example please see the profile of Asia Kate Dillon tagged as "actress"
while they are identifying as non-binary.

It's been over a year, and this issue has not be addressed. Why is the problem listed as solved on this thread? Non-binary actors are finally getting visibility in the industry, and IMDb misgenders them like it's the 90s, apparently when the IMDb system was designed.

Sad that there is not more input here.
I like their acting (Asia).

I am also non-binary and would really like to be listed as "actor" on my profile as i consider it a gender neutral term, at least it is according to Noel Coward

It's unfortunate that IMDb remains completely silent about this issue.

As a genderqueer director, I would also like this issue properly resolved.

That progress could not possibly be known, except by employees. Just because there has not been a change does not mean progress does not exist. This does not seem to have much support. 4 Me too's in two years! Find some support and maybe they might find it a more pressing issue. Not just outside support, but real Inside the Industry support.

This Topic only has 3 Me Too's
