Another way of doing genre information

Some films are classified as belonging to 4 or more genres which I don't have a problem with but I think the relevant information could be better communicated. Genres are listed at the top of a page and again near the middle. The listing on the top of the page is restricted to a maximum of 3 items but further down you may get more listed. The problem is that genres are listed strictly in alphabetical order so the three items you see up the top are the first three alphabetically which does not necessarily equate to the three most relevant. So in the case of many items those near the bottom alphabetically (Romance, Sci-Fi, Thriller, War, Western etc) may not show in the "top 3" listing even if they objectively should. Also there are other movie websites which copy genre info from IMDb rather than thinking for themselves and often they copy the "top 3." My suggestion is to either restrict films to the three or fewer most relevant genres or put the three most relevant at the top of the page regardless of alphabetical order. I'll find an example somewhere on the site and post.

Here's an example. Pearl Harbor is Action/Drama/History/Romance/War and therefore Action/Drama/History are the three genres at the top of the page. It is obviously a war movie and that needs to show up the top, I suspect many people won't scroll down to see more genres.

They could also add a relevant/not relevant voting option for genres and list the most-votes genre first, as they do with keywords.

Yes that might be more practical than sorting through hundreds of thousands of titles determining the three most relevant. Allowing users to vote might lead to trolls voting something like Schindler's List for comedy but most would take it seriously and you wouldn't get that sort of odd result overall, speaking of Schindler's List it's not currently listed as a war movie.

I just posted an Idea for the same feature with more or less the same reasoning and explanation:  Genres for titles should be manually sortable.  Unfortunately, this one didn't come up in my search results before posting, but I just voted for it.

I think trolls would account for an insignificantly small percentage of voters that wouldn't affect the outcome of genre ordering, and would also suspect the 1-10 star film rating to be more susceptible to their influence.  I feel the lack of knowledge of genres would be a far greater contributor to inaccuracy than trolls, as well as users voting who haven't seen the entire movie.  But this is inevitable for pretty much anything having to do with voting or rating.

Also there are other movie websites which copy genre info from IMDb rather than thinking for themselves and often they copy the "top 3."
Well, IMDb is the most accurate and comprehensive film site on the net AFAIK, except for the genre ordering b/c of this very issue, which is another great reason why the genres should be sorted by relevance/predominance.  If this site is going to serve as a model for other sites, willingly or unwillingly, then it should try to provide the most accurate information for genres as well.
