Add the option to select multiple filters when searching for movies

Example: When I search for "Most Voted Sci-Fi Titles With User Rating of 8.1" I'd might want to add the filter "Year" or "US Box Office" or both (why not?). I think overall the advanced search tool should be more user friendly by enabling to add multiple filters after the first selection. In the example I gave, I had to go to "Most Popular Sci-Fi Feature Films", refine by Rating to modify the list in "Most Popular Sci-Fi Titles" then select user rating 8.1 to modify it in "Most Popular Sci-Fi Titles With User Rating of 8.1". The interesting part is that now I have another set of filters (I can select only one at a time) and I can even filter using User rating again, which is redundant as I already have a list with sci fi titles rated 8.1
I think this process could be a lot easier if the search tool could have some filters on the side which you can select/deselect  using basic categories/subcategories like Year(expand-checkbox>subcategory), User rating(expand>checkbox-subcategory), US Box Office, Genre, etc.

Yo Adrian,

Sorry, couldn't resist.

There's a 3-year-old idea thread here, https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/add_the_filter_options_to_the_sidebar_of_the_search_results, proposing changes to filtering and sorting functions across all IMDb searches, to which you may want to add your thoughts and vote. It's best to keep these ideas in one place where IMDb staff can keep track of them and gauge the level of user interest.

That out of the way, a good deal of what you're asking for can already be accomplished via IMDb's Advanced Search function. You asked
When I search for "Most Voted Sci-Fi Titles With User Rating of 8.1"

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&genres=sci_fi&sort=num_votes,desc&user_rating=8.1,8.1&view=simple

I'd might want to add the filter "Year"

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&genres=sci_fi&sort=num_votes,desc&user_rating=8.1,8.1&view=simple&explore=year

or "US Box Office"

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&genres=sci_fi&sort=num_votes,desc&user_rating=8.1,8.1&view=simple&explore=boxoffice_gross_us

or both (why not?)

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&genres=sci_fi&sort=num_votes,desc&user_rating=8.1,8.1&view=simple&explore=year,boxoffice_gross_us

The &explore= parameter must be added manually to the URL to activate the refine options present in the last three examples.
