41 legit cast credits declined in a 1989 feature-length documentary

Addition of a (previously non-existent on IMDb) feature-length documentary from 1989 (#190717-202359-151000) was ought to have some difficulties, but 41 cast credits declined is a tad too much.

Unfortunately there is no official digital release of the documentary, so all the information was accessed through a bootleg recorded from an old VHS. Considering that in documentaries each mention of someone before that person is shown is considered a credit, I re-watched it several times to get all of the names right. I'm not sure whether using "(credit only)" for people featured through the photographs was the right decision, but Adam West, Joe DeRita, Larry Fine, Moe Howard, Burgess Meredith, Marilyn Monroe, Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt all appear in the documentary either in the mixture of original footage and archive (West, Newmar and Kitt) or in archive footage (Meredith, Monroe, all of The Three Stooges).

Overall it feels a bit sad that I've spent hours upon hours compiling a full list of appearing people only half of them to be declined. Then again, with a title that big from 1989 that was kinda inevitable. To be honest, re-checking the submission I've noticed I made a few mistakes such as not listing DeRita, Fine and Howard as "(archive footage)" and listing John Astin as "(archive footage)" rather then "(credit only)", but that's nothing a  casual re-check on my part (which I often do for the title I've added) would've corrected, eventually.

I hope staff will be able to help you with this, but thanks for pointing out this documentary. I didn't know about it, but will check it out on YouTube. Thanks for the link!

Hi Nikolay,

Is this the entirety of the documentary? If so then I don't think those credits for photographs are eligible as the names aren't credited on screen and the content wasn't created specifically for this documentary, unless I am missing a policy note somewhere?

See the cast guidelines - https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/filmography-credits/cast-acting-credits-guidelines/GH3JZC74FVYKKFMD?ref_=helpsrall#

Exceptions: Corpses, paintings, mummies, etc, should not be listed as cast members in any title. People who appear only in still photographs can be included in filmography based on these guidelines:

  • The content was created specifically for the title and they do receive an on screen credit: they should be credited as reflected on screen with the addition of a (credit only) attribute.
  • They are not featured in the end credits: they can be listed with the 'uncredited' attribute (as defined in the guide I worked on a title but did not receive a screen credit. Can it be listed on IMDb?') This should be submitted as Photographic Model in Miscellaneous crew.

  • If the content is not explicitly created for the title and they are credited: they should be listed with the 'credit only' attribute
  • They are not credited: they are not eligible for listing as a filmography item, but can be submitted as “Bio: Other Works” or “Title: Trivia” (as long as it adheres to our Trivia policies)

Thanks,
Will

Thanks for clarification, Will! I guess I will just re-do the cast section anew then: remove credit only items and leave only those which have at least some snippet of footage attached about them.

Thanks, Will! It seems everything went fine. The cast was now reduced to 23 credited people from archive footage and original materials of the documentary. Those with the footage who were omitted were now added.
