Katharine Hepburn picked up her very first BAFTA nomination in 1953 but for which film?  According to IMDb it is 'The African Queen' (https://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000123).  In  Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAFTA_Award_for_Best_Actress_in_a_Leading_Role) and the BAFTA awards database (http://awards.bafta.org/award/1953/film/foreign-actress) it is 'Pat and Mike'.  I thus suspect that IMDb have the wrong film.

The Wayback Machine at archive.org shows that IMDb listed the nomination for Pat and Mike until late 2010 or 2011.

IMDb may have a record of why it was changed. Otherwise, you would probably be right to trust the official database over IMDb. I would also tend to have more confidence in the older IMDb listing as I believe the award section was more strictly edited in the past.
