I am a movie critic and would like to add "Moe Goes to the Beach", a 7-minute short film by Ibnul Jaif Farabi  to the IMDB database. Can I do that without permission so that it can be reviewed? Ben Meyers

Ben: Someone (and that can be you, or anyone else who wants to do so) will need to submit this film for listing in IMDb as a new title. The form to do that begins at https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=title and continues on succeeding screens from there.

The submitter will be expected to provide at least one Miscellaneous Link during the submission process. I suggest using https://www.amazon.com/Moe-Goes-Beach-Animated-Short/dp/B0797BGWKQ as such a link because that proves that the film is available for rental on Amazon Prime and thus has been distributed to the public.

If you run into problems along the way while you are completing the form, you can always come back here and ask.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
Thank you...I was nervous about the third party copyright notice on that page and did not want to impose on any rights of the owner/creator.
Okay...further/deeper research: This movie is on IMDB under the title "The mole at the sea" (2012) AKA "Krot na more" (September 2012 release) Director: Anna Kadykova, Script: Anna Kadykova, Art Director: Sonya Kendel Producer: Lyubov Gaidukova  Technique: drawn Duration: 5 minutes Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Language: no dialogue Completion date: 2012  It went to 61 international film festivals and won numerous awards.

However, the movie Amazon is streaming is showing as "Moe Goes to the Beach" Director/Executive Producer/Sound Engineer/Visual Effects: Ibnul Jaif Farabi

The only difference I can see between the two films is that the Russian original is 5.0 minutes long and this Amazon Prime short film has been lengthened by slowing down the presentation to 7.0 minutes...I don't know how to add it to IMDB when it appears as an original piece by an entirely different crew, but a new person apparently has marketed it to Amazon.

I watched the Russian version and am posting my review there...but I currently focus on Amazon/Netflix reviews. I am uncertain how to handle this.

Ibnul Jaif Farabi does not list the film on his IMDB credits.

Thank you,

Can I pre-suppose that Ibnul purchased all rights from Lyubov Gaidukova and update IMDB on my assumption? Thank you, Ben

Ben: I wouldn't pre-suppose anything like that. It seems very strange that the director credit of a film would change after its initial release.

I recommend doing some more investigation to find out what actually happened that resulted in the director credit changing from Anna Kadykova to Ibnul Jaif Farabi. If that information is not available, I wouldn't recommend submitting any changes.

Hello Ben,
You don’t need special permission to submit a new title. Read the FAQ page at https://help.imdb.com/article/contrib...# about New Title Submissions. Give as much detail as you can, but you don’t have to fill in everything on each form, you only need to do as much as is required although adding more information never hurts.

Your submission will then be checked by the IMDb staff and approved (or not).

Steve

Merely creating an IMDb title entry (or likewise for other documentary media) for a copyrighted published work would not be against the law and therefore would not violate any of the rights of any author, any copyright holder or any licensed reproducer, of the work. So, please do not worry. Focus instead on the eligibility criteria established by the IMDb company.
Thank you. : )
