midi learn on iPad

There are a slew of controllers I wish were supported (faderfox in particular), midi learn for iPad would make that possible! Another approach if midi learn on ipad will never happen, would be to create midi mapping on OSX and transfer a config file over.

I do feel like support for more midi controllers is necessary, Numark iDJ Live doesn't even have 3 band eq!

esp if we can map for the desktop app, and use for iPhone/ipad. this would give djay value that traktor doesn't have

Hello,

djay for iphone/ipad is a fine app, especially now that multi-audio routing is supported, but it still needs a few features to make it a perfect fit for professional dj sets:

- MIDI learn, so we can use any class-compliant USB midi controllers through the camera connection kit. It if fine to have features devices for djay, but I already have tons of midi controllers (and I think I'm not alone ^^) so if can setup djay on my controllers as I like to, it would be a dream setup!

- "modulable" deck/effect panel, as a DJ mixing electronic music I have no interest in scratching thus the deck are more like a waste of space to me: it would be nice to be able to replace the decks by effects pad or EQs (as most DJ I need EQs, all the time!!), while still having the current effect/eq/cue window open. This is already possible on some other DJ apps (like cross DJ) and would be a welcome addition to djay.

Thanks for supporting djay!

DJ Player app has that feature, just tested it and it works great. This should definetly be a standard feature of an dj app.

As iCloud is already supported under the hood ,sharing the MIDI mapping files with the Mac OS X version should be not that difficult. This instead of workarounds that I read about in combination with Jailbreaking the iPad and added the mapping files that way the iPad app (I don't like that).

It think there are many people are willing to buy both Mac OS X version and the iPad version when this kind of feature is added.

I only can imagine this is not done, because of some kind of deal with hardware vendors currently supported. But lets stay positive and hope that this will be supported in the near future, though it was not added in V2 of the iPad app which I just bought.

One more thing, it would be great if we could also chain bind actions to a single midi input like in traktor pro.For instance, bind a button to do autocrossfade, lower the bass on playing track and bring up the bass on the new track. I use this feature on traktor a lot. I even have 4 dedicated buttons on my controller just for these "on the fly" transitions, all of them with different fx or fx combos...for example, i have autocrossfade, cross bass on decks A and B, 4 beat riser sample from deck C and freeze delay on playing track and peak filter + iceverb to bring in the new track for a more dramatic transition. All this is done with a single keypress. Ofcourse im also setting the parameters for each fx, eg. dry/wet gradually increasing troughout the transition. Many other cool things can be done with this.

Hi phain,
you are the first person who uses traktor I've seen who isn't complaining about this app!! I use pioneer rekordbox with xdj aero.

Have you used Djay for a full dj set ? Is it stable enough for 6-8 hours dj set?

I've used djay 2 repeatedly for long sets (5-6 hours in a go) at several private parties so far this summer, mostly with a Numark iDJ Pro...no issues noted, so I'm confident its stable.

I guess he meant "stable" as in app not crashing, but the fx issue still bugs me as I tend to use fx very often. At this point I am forcing myself to use fx only when transitioning and even then I have to bring in the new track first so I can "cover up" the volume loss on the playing track.

Hey Bob,
Fooled around with it at my friends club. I came there for a drink and he asked me to go in the booth and spin some music while we wait for a dj he had booked. Did 2 hours straight till the guy showed up. I had no problems with it whatsoever tho my performance was limited (i use remix decks a lot, like to do mashups and transition with some fx combos). Still was kinda laidback, no pressure performance, people liked it, i even left the booth for couple of mins thanks to automix :). I see great potential in this software and if only i could connect my controller to it and have a remix or track deck extra plus some more fx i'd take it out for a full night serious gig.

Hi phain, thanks for your reply!
I also took it out to my club in it's old form (even before any controller was added). It also worked for me, but the output was terrible back then. The new update is cool. I want to ditch rekordbox (cos pioneer are not good at apps!! ) Then use it 5-6 nights a week at work, every night. I wish algoriddim would listen to the real djs. I want to use it with my controller. I'm not fussed about using it with spotify! That's a gimmicky trick for guys sat in the office.

This could re write djing + iPad rules....if they open it up more.

Hey Bob,
Spotify integration is not even on my wishlist. Midilearn, extra deck, more fx, samples that can be synced with playing tracks, 2 finger loop selecting on the waveform and a dedicated loop button on the main screen...just a few that i can think of from the top of my head...not to mention fx section needs to be fixed(volume drop when using an fx) but that's problem fixing not implementatin of new things...
You should try Traktor DJ. I got it for free from appstore as an anniversary gift from NI,not sure if it's still free(regular price was 19,99 i think). It has some very good features and is reliable. Has better looping functionality, more cues (can cue up loops too,) awesome slicing of the waveform, key detection and track suggestion based upon key, genre and bpm...I like it very much...tho the only controller you can use with it atm is NI's own Traktor Kontrol Z1.
Cheers.

I used IExplorer app to view midimap files in Djay. I hoped i could get somone with a mac to use midilearn with my controller Reloop Digital Jockey 2 CE and then copy that file on my ipad but it turns out that apple protected the ios app files from editing in recent update. So, stuck at 6.1.3 ios version atm I have to wait for the release of ios7 jailbreak :(

Hi Faku,
We'll be sure to address all issues with the iDJ Pro. But you're in the wrong thread.
