Strike Kit new user kit too large

Took the "Da Da Kit" and swapped the 3 toms and bass for the "PS Natural drums". That was it. Says kit too large.

In researching I found where there's a 200Mb kit limit? Best I could do was 211Mb by removing the 3rd Crash Cymbal voices since I don't have one. Not sure I understand why this is the case give the SD Card expand-ability.

If this is due to hardware limitation I would say the next firmware update should be to allow for larger SDCard and setup the program to automatically partition 1Gb off the card for usable memory to accommodate for a shortsighted hardware limitation. Either that or recall all modules for a hardware memory upgrade. This is crazy. Chips are cheap, we have evolved beyond the 64Mb Memory limit from the 1980's.

Also what does someone do if they were to upgrade their Strike to a Pro model by adding the extra cymbal and Tom?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for posting. I'll be happy to submit your feedback to my software team for review.

Also what does someone do if they were to upgrade their Strike to a Pro model by adding the extra cymbal and Tom?
I'm not quite sure what you're referring to here. Can you please provide me with some more information?

This has been happening to me as well!!!! Only started AFTER I loaded v1.4. I've done 2 updates on my Strike Pro module and decided to see if anyone else's module has been displaying the same Error Message before I pitch a fit. I had only 3 user kits giving me the same error by only editing the Instruments (NO LAYERS). ***I'm also experiencing a change in my edited & saved "User Kits" Snare Settings in regards to its VOLUME, TONE & the actual INSTRUMENT I had selected. This ONLY seems to appear the Next Morning, after I power the module down at night (this not only changes the kit Snare I edited & saved, but the other kits previously saved on mem card.*** I've been spending COUNTLESS HOURS editing kits just to boot it up the following day & notice that all of the work spent on it was for NOT. This has happened on 4 separate occasions so far. Is anyone else experiencing this??? I'm reluctant to call or submit everything I've just written to ALESIS Customer Support because I've submitted 2 prior request before only to receive an email from them acknowledging/confirming receipt of my complaint & telling me a Tech will be Phoning me within 24 hours to help. Well the never call me (and I'm retired & at home 24/7...

All I know is that even with the message, kits seem to play fine but take a few extra seconds to load in backgound.. For now, I ignore it

I have the Strike kit not the Strike Pro. Strike has 1 less Cymbal and 1 less Tom than the Pro. If I'm getting a "kit too large" error by changing 3 toms to a diff provided preset kit instrument then how can one adjust using the Pro model then?

This error is basically limiting/prohibiting the primary design intent of flexibility and customization. There needs to be a software update to raise 200mb (204.8 if using 1024=1mb) to at least 262.14mb ( 256mb using the 1024 standard). Would actually think this should be more like 512mb to allow incorporation of commercially purchased samples for use.

Bill R. are there plans in works to address this issue? My Yamaha 532K doesn't have this issue. Just looks a little small at a larger venue is all.

Some info about the new Strike Multipad could indicate plans for a 'Strike MkII' module with more memory (https://www.alesis.com/kb/article/2457)

"What is the max capacity of storage per preset kit?
- Because the Strike Multipad streams samples directly from their location in the internal memory or connected USB drive, the only limitation to the size of your samples/kit is the available space on your drive. This is a great advantage if you are using the Strike Multipad to playback full backing tracks."

"How much internal memory is in the Strike Multipad?
- The Strike Multipad has 32GB of storage total with over 6GB of content, including loops, drums, and percussion, plus melodic instruments for any style. The difference in space is available for you to import your own samples and loops. In addition, a USB port on the back allows you to connect a mass-storage device for additional storage, so you can import, export, and backup kits and samples in a flash.

Tony, I thought I was losing my mind until I read your issue with the Strike Module.
If you have been contacted regarding this, could you shoot me an email telling me what they've told you what is causing this error message? My email is RonHovet@yahoo.com Read below.

I've not received anything back from Alesis on this. I mean with today's electronics and all there really shouldn't be a limit this low on memory size for one. I've even dropped the second triggers on a custom set just to get the main triggers to work with the selections I've made. I've managed to get 1 secondary trigger added for a cowbell is it. I did add a cymbal but I'm still below total # of triggers the Pro kit would have had so.... I don't get it. I have the Strike not the Strike Pro so without the extra Tom (2 triggers) and 2 cymbals (2 triggers), I just added 1 Cymbal, I should be able to customize anything without the memory/Kit Too Large" Error.

Time to buy a Pearl Mimic Pro Module and replace the Strike? Expensive, but hearing amazing things about it.

I've never played through one or have any experience with them. I'm out with shoulder surgery for now but will be back soon. If I'm still having problems with this module after returning, I'm ditching it for a Roland or something else. I like the drums but the module's not user-friendly at all. Never second guessed as many settings with the Roland modules I've owned in the past. I'm over it!!

Be careful as clean vst sounds don't work well live (imho). Slatedrums are great but you better know how to process the clean sounds in a studio like chain (compression, eq, verb and limiting) before they will sound right live. Otherwise for recording, Strike triggers SD3 just fine. I find that if youre going to do that much tweaking with the mimic, you can get just as good if not better sounds for real drumming with the strike for more than half the cost of the midule alone. Otherwise....
I ignore the kit too large message as it seems to have no effect once the kit fully loads. I notice that for about 2 seconds all the ambience isnt there like on a snare but it does show up and kits seem to play just fine so not sure what the issues might actually be

It uses vst sounds only so you better know what your doing re post processing because vst sounds are way to clean especially for live

I only play/practice (learning and home jamming) with my Strike, so I'm not worried about live performance/sound, thanks though.

My absolute biggest complaint is the kit size limited to 200mb. This really limits how many samples i can layer and is very frustrating when trying to design a kit that best represents what i use live with my acoustic drum kit.

If Alesis can double or triple the kit size from 200mb this module with some vsts would be unstoppable.

To anyone that says creating a kit that falls under the "Kit To Large" plays perfectly fine is not really trying to put this kit through its paces.

Simple snare rolls while crashing on cymbals will result in your cymbals automatically choking.

Same results when playing extreme metal and blast beats.

I also run into the kit to large category and it’s ridiculous! Playing fast open notes on the host lead it to sound choked/shut, blasts mess up and all, and I don’t even have the extra toms or cymbals... also effects don’t seem to work on user kits? Wtf!?

Ya they need to fix this issue many are not experiencing this as they are not putting this module to the true test. It is driving me nuts!

The kit too large has zero symptoms as far as I ca. Tell other than not bein fan fully loaded for literally onl UN the first 5 seconds of playing one of those kits. I’ve created a number of kits that Supposedly or two large including imports from Estee three and I’ve been playing this kid every day all day for about a month now and as far as I can tell other than getting the message all these kids played just fine. If you do get a simple choke like people have described it only happens within the first few seconds of playing that kit. I’ve never had an ongoing issue with it through any songs or solos wants the kit is loaded. That said I hope Alesis still works on the issue

The Strike Module Kit limitation is frankly so bad, I may have to sell my Strike Kit, w/ extra Ride Cymbal, and put my money toward something that isn't so limited in this regard. Sucks, because I see the potential in it, but this is a major major flaw.
