MIDI problems with dm5 running through laptop

Hey guys. I have recently converted my acoustic drum kit to a hybrid using the DM5 Moduel. I’m using mesh drum heads and Roland HR triggers, running Roland cymbals and a Roland hi-hat pedal. This set up works just fine when I use the module alone.

Recently I’ve been trying to get this set up to work on my laptop via midi to USB so I can record and use some studio quality samples for easy recording etc.

Basically I have my set up running the triggers to the DM5, then a MIDI to USB to my laptop, running Get Good Drums though kontakt player through reaper.

Now this does work. I plug it in and I can play and it works but I’m having some major issues with double triggering, miss triggers and cross talk interference. It seems to be having trouble registering which MIDI note/trigger is which.

Sometimes I’ll hit the China and the Hi-hat will go off, or I hit the snare and it triggers the kick. when I hit 3 at the same time eg. China, snare and kick it will only register one or two of the hits and miss trigger the China or kick.

Now before you say it’s the module settings- it definitely isn’t. I’ve spent hours and hours tweaking all of the trigger settings and still can’t get it to work right, and when I plug my headphones directly into the module alone I have no problems. Perfect response, no double triggers, no miss triggers or cross talk.

This had lead me to assume that there must be an issue with my laptop miss interpreting the triggers/midi notes and getting them mixed up and not having the capacity to play more than 2 notes/triggers at the same time.

Does anyone have any successful experience running a DM5 through a laptop?

Long story short- module alone works fine no issues, plug into laptop and doesn’t read midi notes/triggers properly

I want to know if I can set the midi notes individually on the module and/or on my DAW aswell to eliminate miss interpretations on the laptop

Any help appreciated, this is doing my head in.
