Alesis Q25 not receiving MIDI data from Ableton and not sending data to Roland SH01A

My alesis Q25 keyboard is connected to my mac via USB, i also have the midi out port going to the midi in port on my roland SH01a.

I have a midi clip in ableton, its playing midi notes, on that track i have an external instrument plugin to send midi out of ableton to my Q25 keyboard via its usb, then it should pass that midi info to the midi out port on the Q25 which goes to the midi in on my 101a.

But, it's not happening. The midi appears to be leaving ableton fine, but the 101 isn't picking it up.
It does say in the Q25 keyboard manual that "The usb port will send and receive midi data and may also be used to send midi from your computer to a device attached to the midi out port of the Q25"

Any ideas or help would be great,

Thanks for posting.

What operating system are you using on your Mac?

In order for the Q25 to properly transmit MIDI data to another MIDI device, you will need to have a MIDI cable connected from the MIDI Out port on the Q25 to the MIDI In port on your SH-01A. Since I'm not familiar with this Roland product that you're using, have you checked in the product's documentation to see if there's any additional setup required for this product when using it with another MIDI device?
