Alesis Crimson Mesh - USB Error

I'm trying to record straight onto a usb drive with my Alesis Crimson Mesh kit but whenever I connect a usb to the module it says USB DRIVE ERROR! PLEASE RESTART!" I've checked that the usb is FAT32 enabled. I've tried three separate USBs and it says the same thing every time. Anyone know what the issue is?

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for posting.

What is the capacity of the drive you're using? Note, your USB flash drive must be between 4 and 64GB. Try formatting the drive.

To format a connected USB flash drive:

  1. Press Kit to enter the Kit Selection page (if you are not already viewing it).
  2. Press Menu to enter the Kit Menu.
  3. Use the Down and Up buttons to select USB Memory, and then press Enter.
  4. Use the Down and Up buttons to select Format, and then press Enter.
  5. The display will show The USB memory will be erased! Enter or Exit?
To format the drive (which will also erase its contents), press Enter.

To cancel formatting, press Exit

Hi Bill, thanks for your response.

The kit doesn't let me format the USB drive. I've formatted it on my Mac and the same error message comes up when I connect the USB making the drum module crash. I've tried four separate USB sticks and the exact same thing happens with each one. The capacity of the drives are between 32 and 64gb so they should be compatible. Any idea what I can do next?

Thanks,

Jordan

Just thought I would share information, I see this is an old thread but hopefully helps a fellow drummer. I had the same issue and was getting frustrated at lack of information and their answer to send the module in. I was able to get mine working by going in to the usb setting and having it read that there is no USB drive....i then connected a USB and it processed and allowed me to format. Hope it works for someone else with this problem.

Yeah, mine is only a couple of months old too. Have had to get it sent away for repair.

I am having the exact same issue, I have formatted my drives on both Mac and PC and neither are working. I was able to try and format a drive once but it took forever and ended up shutting down the module without completing the format. Frustrating

I just got a used Alesis Crimson and when this happened to me i was very worried that I was stuck with a module with this issue because I didn't have the original receipt. I had the Crimson hooked up to my PC via USB 3.0 (it didn't seem to respond plugged into a USB 2.0). Anyways, I tried the USB thumb stick for sample uploads and had the error that crashed the module every time I plugged it in. My work around was unplugging the usb 3.0 that connected to the PC while I used the USB thumb drive. It worked like a charm. I believe the Module was having errors reading the USB drive because of multiple USB devices being routed through it. I hope this helps others.

I am having this issue with a USB memory stick. Module won't load .wav files from the stick, I get a USB memory error and please restart. I can't seem to format the stick either. I am going to try buying another stick. Mine is a Lexar at the moment.
