MPK Mini MKII Broken/ Snapped off key

Hi! Bought the MPKMini MK II recently, and suddenly one of its keys snapped off (I believe) from the unit only after a few weeks of use.

I want to know the best way to have it repaired (bought it on Amazon in the US then had it shipped here in the Philippines). Thank you!

Hello,

Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear that!

We don't handle any service or warranty here on the forums. Contact the tech support team or your local distributor for more info.

One thing I do know about the warranty is that it applies only in the region where you purchased it (the US in this case). When you ship internationally, the warranty does not come with it.

In either case, here's the contact info. Please ask them for more info and they'll be happy to help!

Hi, Speakerbug here, You wouldnt believe it but i had exactly the same key break a few months after buying mine. right under the ARP OCTAVE 2, Was actually really dissapointed to see the design, looks bound for failure being such a small piece of brittle plastic, Is this some kind of defect perhaps, as it seems a little weird that the same key broke on both. or maybe we both really like the E? Regardless, It is a great little unit, pads are nice, love the joystick, even the keys were nice until they snapped.
are there spare key beds that can be inserted? or is my former favorite controller destined to be a useless rectangular Frisbee with red and green lights?

I hope theres something that can be done to save my little MPK Mini, I'm so sad :(

Regards

Hello there,

Same thing has been happening to me as well!! To fix this I put some crazy glue on the white end where the key sticks back in and leave it there and it will still work after its dry. I think these keys are glued up in there cause when my key popped out it had that dry glue look like when you break apart something that was glued.

If I even swipe all the keys from left to right like on a real piano, I'm afraid all the keys gonna break off this thing lols.

yeah, glue is the fix for sure or polyurethane, I emailed them at akai and they said that there are no spare parts, and that the minis are basically designed to disposable. so home fix is the only option anyway. (or cannibalise the keys from another one). the keyboard comes out in halves and then layers.

Would be sweet if akai made an mpk mkii thats bit more expensive and higher quality. with a hinged keybed, and better knobs. would be awesome.

Its Akai poor quality. This happened to my 1st generation MPK mini also. Same damn key. Akai lost me as a customer after that. I now use a Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus when i'm on the go.

yeah akai has lost me as a future customer, as has axiom, who also is the same brand and basically anything else the in music group does. sucks to hear this is so wide spread. definitely constitutes a product thats not fit for purpose, under consumer legislation we should really get a refund. but thatd be too hard. so the easy option is a home fix, and never buy their stuff again. haha I even changed the branding on mine to akai is shit with a paint marker haha. ill have to check out a quneo, they are pretty cool hey. Peace boys and good luck with your music.

I guess I'm part of the club. I'm very careful with all of my gear. I've had no problems with my akao mpk 61 before I decided to scale to the mini, MPK mini didn't seem to last very long. Is there anyway I can get this fixed. Loyal customer :))

We can't keep letting these huge corporations do this crap! We buy gear to use, and it's not to much to ask to expect a decent working life. Akai thinks that because it's only a small population that bought this $99 budget product, that we don't deserve the same level of support/quality that their higher end customers do. This is exactly why I sold my mpc 2500 and got Kontact + reason, instead of the new MPC. Screw you akai!

I too have a broken key. It while playing normally - not hard or anathing like that, one of my fingers just hit the nabouring which broke.
On the box and on the keyboard itself it states "Akai Professinel", so one should assume that this is a quality product made for professinels, who can use it when travelling and suddenly gets a musical idea.
The keys are not made in a proffesionel way, the material is simply to thin to be strong enough. The engineers at Akai "professinel" haven't done their tests good enough, poor qualitycontrole. Akai Pro shoul make a product, which is in corresondance of what it is used for - playing without the risc on breaken the keys by doing so. Akai Pro themselves create a bad reputation for there products, since one could assume that more expensive products are made by the same engineers and in a cheap way. So you'll risc buying a 1,000 usd keyboard which will break within some month or 2 years. I have a Korg M1 from 1987, which 100% functioning as when it was bought, no broken keys or the like.
The keys on the Akai mini mk2, is like the keys on a cheap childrens keyboard from Toys're us

Had the exact same key break today after less than a year of use. This seems like a manufacturing issue for it to be happening so frequently and near the same ey.

this is design problem!!

everyone affected should have a new keyboard for the problem that affects us, or else the prestige of akai products will decline.

Hey, why not just make an open group on FB? Then anyone searching can join.
Mine has 3 snapped keys. Its ridiculous, they keep snapping. I DEMAND JUSTICE (or if not some acknowledgement from Akai for all of us)

Seems my problem is a little different to the ones here, a little white piece snapped off the bottom of the key, seems like that little piece prevented the whole key from erecting like that lmao. Anybody know a fix for this? Or would I have to replace the whole key.
