The team is working to resolve this quickly. In the meantime, we recommend rolling back your firmware, software and driver version to 2.6.

This must be a joke, right? We waited 6 months for a lemon update (from the standalone perspective). I actually installed it, only to find that you patched the controller mode for your own software kaputt!
Well, expansion management still seems to work, never cared much for the rest of the MPC desktop software. Why not reduce the MPC software to that only and focus on Ableton...but then you should at least offer a good discount on Ableton.
But the worst moment was reading, that i should revert to 2.6.
There you dropped the ball.
Please please fix this!

Thank you.

Oh, and while I am at it...
There are real issues to fix:
- Disk Streaming
- MIDI issues
Ableton for the MPC was not one of them.

That must be a joke, right? After 6 months waiting for a weak update for the MPC, you managed to patch you own software kaputt on Macs and recommend rolling back to 2.6? ..... what have you been smoking?
Actually Ableton works reasonably well with the MPC, at least for triggering external plugins. Your software still installs expansion packs on the MPC. But controller mode is gone.
Two possible solutions:
- kill the MPC software all together, just leave the installer / expansion management feature intact and provide a good discount on Ableton Live.
- or kill the controller mode completely and make usb communication available in standalone mode and add MPC control mode like you did for Ableton.
The MPC Live is still my favorite tool for making music ( stand-alone!) - Thank you!
Didn’t ask for Ableton integration.
But please get this sorted.

Thank you.

ok.... yes... I have so far not any crazy issues on this update but i would still rather this... AND I USED ABLETON TOO!!! LOL!!!
Just make the device great on its own. Even get rid of the clip launching and make more room for other useful OS stuff. Basically remake what the old mpcs can do, and then add modern day features. dont subtract features for other feature noones really asked for.... my 2 cents.

Update....and this is actually a positive!
I managed to get controller mode to work in 2.7 by doing the following, and this is not scientific....so, no guarantee that this works for you out there.
De-installed the driver as mentioned above. (To roll back the software back to 2.6 you need a copy of the original download though - which I don’t have

Hey Electric R,

I'm sorry to hear that you have had trouble with the update. As I mentioned above, the team is aware of the issue and working to resolve it as a priority. While this has only effected a small group of users, I wanted to provide the community with a heads up in case anyone was experiencing difficulty.

If you need access to the 2.6 software installer, please use this download link:

There's gotta be something to it. It works perfectly fine in controller mode here and for plenty of other people. Give em a chance to figure out a common denominator, they cant know everyones system out there and if the beta testers didn't report it, they cant just fix what they don't know.

Thanks for the instructions Eliza. I was actually thinking of going back to 2.6 because I started getting my first 'recovered from an internal error' messages after updating but I reflashed 2.7 the next morning from a USB stick instead and haven't seen it since that first night. Now I have the instructions, mine came with 2.4 so I still have the updater for 2.6 if I ever need it.

Hey, I've got a temporary solution, don't know if it's supposed to work like this or not? On my Mac Pro installing 2.7 erased one of the two MIDI drivers installed. the AKAI MPC MIDI Driver.plugin. It did not erase this driver on my MacBook Pro, and copying the plug in from the MacBook Pro to the desktop Mac Pro seems to have solved the issue?

I have Mojave & 2.7, works ok, a few 'mis-starts' though... like, start up my Mac, turn on the MPC in standalone.. then I load DAW up (which has a template with MPC software plugin loaded)... THEN, I put the MPC into Controller mode. That works 4 out of 5 times.

Ive noticed it doesn't work in controller mode here either, however, the option to 'live control' to seamless connect to Ableton isn't showing up In my menu bar either. anyone know how I can start benefiting from the new Ableton update?

Hey lori.lechien,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. Ableton Control will only be accessible in standalone mode. Put the MPC in standalone mode and open the Menu. If you don't see the Ableton Control icon, tap on the gear icon at the top and tap on the info tab. What firmware version are you on?

It's only available in Standalone mode... as strange as that is, you can't have the plugin AND Ableton at the same time.

It's the F&%$in' Catalina Wine Mixer*

No. But in Akai's defense.. Catalina is a major pain in the 'prison pocket' for the majority of device manufacturers out there right now.
