I've noticed my MPC Live screens starts to flicker sometimes. It can happen when the MPC is plugged or unplugged, in Night mode. Has anybody experienced that? Should I return it?

I have exactly the same problem.
I've sent a bug feedback thru the MPC software.

I hope just it is not a hardware failure....

This problem is reproducible for me -- I normally get it when I'm in Program Edit menu. Night Mode as well.

Hey everybody,

I'm sorry you're experiencing this! As Nico mentioned, be sure to submit this with the MPC 2.0 Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team!

Thank you for your feedback!

Hello Nick, I am not using the software. Are there other ways to report this problem to AKAI? Also it would be nice to know wether this is a hardware problem or a software bug.

Hey PuaKoala,

Flickering typically occurs when the screen brightness field is empty and selecting a level of brightness makes the screen behave normally. I have seen this in the past and have submitted it myself to the team - I suggest you to do that as well. From what I know, this does look like it is relative to the software and is not a hardware issue.

How many people have to report a bug before the developers decide to fix it? After at least 5 firmware updates, the screen flickering issue is still occurring with v2.1.

I've sent a bug report of this problem months ago and I'm also still experiencing the screen flickering problem in both day and night screen modes. Only difference is that the brightness menu is not empty like it was months ago.

I'd like to know if this is a hardware or software problem?

The issue is still present. Nick D — is there a way to see what issues were submitted? There's no feedback in that form and most issues are unsolved for literally years now. Don't want to be reporting same issues over and over again, especially when all of them are discussed on this forum in detail.

Mine have the same problem so what I do when it happen is unplug it from the computer and let it stay out for about 10-15 minutes and plug it back in. It has worked. Try it when it happens and let me know if it does the trick. the usb should be plugged directly into the computer.

Hello Nick,

Can we have better pointers as to whether this is a hardware issue or a software glitch? I have already submitted tickets for issues that I have encountered with the MPC and have yet to receive a follow-up... in this case I would like to know if I need to return the unit or if there will be a future fix.
I can deal with some features being incomplete and few bugs here and there. But if the screen will behave like this consistently, this is not acceptable.
I would really appreciate if we could have a more complete answer on this, rather than the default one.

Thanks

I get this flickering problem occasionally. To stop it during that session I go to 'Preferences > Hardware' and under 'SCREEN BRIGHTNESS' it will be blank (instead of saying DAY or NIGHT). I then reset it to either DAY or NIGHT and everything is fine (for that session at least). The fact that the preferences setting is blank suggests a software bug rather than hardware IMO. I have reported this through the software but would be good to hear more from Akai on this as it's clearly affecting multiple users.

Mine has been doing it regardless of what mode it’s on. Is this a software or a hardware issue?

There've been a half-dozen firmware updates over the past year since this bug was reported, and they still haven't fixed it, so I don't think it matters whether it's hardware or software -- they're not planning to fix it.

Like the other bugs/omissions/quirks with the MPC Live/X, the only solution is to change your workflow to match the (artificial) limitations of the device. I just go in and select day/night every time I power on the device.

To add to this, I only get the flickering problem in standalone mode, it never occurs in controller mode, so IMO this would point to a bug specific to the standalone firmware. However, given it only affects some users, it might be somehow tied in with the hardware, for example, perhaps Akai used a different screen tech or other alternate components in some batches of production, and this is combining with a bug in the firmware to create a problem limited to a small selection of users.

Would be good to know if Akai are actively investigating this - I did leave my email address when I first reported this but I never received any response nor any request for more details.

I am very disappointed. THE QUALITY OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE NEW AKAI MPS IS HORRIBLE. This is ugly. Today I’m thinking about how to connect 16 pads to an electron octatrek, if it works out my MPS will go to the trash.
